Cougar Commendations Breakfasts
Each quarter, teachers,
counselors and administrators have the opportunity to nominate students
for recognition in the areas of academic achievement, leadership,
citizenship, volunteerism, and exceptional contributions. Nominated
students and their families are invited to attend an awards ceremony and
breakfast in the OHS cafeteria. Pictures of the commended students are
displayed in the Academic Boosters’ showcase in the main lobby of Oakton
High School.
OHS C3
Teacher Recognition
Each year, the Oakton High
School community of students, parents, teachers and administrators is
invited to nominate teachers who demonstrate the qualities of exceptional
Caring, Commitment and Creativity. A panel of staff and parents select
the candidates who will be honored at the OHS Night on the Oaktown. One
teacher from this group, selected by the administrators, will become the
OHS Nominee for the Washington Post Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher of the
Year Award.
OHS Academic Awards Ceremony
Academic Boosters provides
financial support for the annual OHS Academic Awards Ceremony and
reception.

on the first day of Science Fair. On the second day, Academic Boosters
provides parent supervision throughout the day while science classes visit
the Science Fair projects on display in the OHS Library, and hosts “A
Night of the Stars” Open House, Awards Ceremony and reception that
evening.

computer software for SOL test prep and snacks for students attending SOL
review sessions when requested to do so.
PSAT Boosts
Pencils and treats are distributed to
all freshman, sophomores and juniors.
AP Boosts
Small snacks and bottled water are
distributed to all students in every AP exam session.
Academic Teams, Clubs, and Programs

Mind, Model UN, Rocketry teams, Robotics team, Japanese Language Club,

Litterati Litteratis (Scholars for Scholars)
Monthly sessions (during second semester) are sponsored after school for
students to assist the academic teams and clubs by designing flyers and
posters that promote support and recognition of these teams and clubs.
As their competition dates approach, the students distribute these
flyers and posters throughout the school.
A Night
on the Oaktown
Our Karaoke Room is the place to be on “A Night on the Oaktown”. Academic
Boosters also honors the C3 Teachers on that evening, and assists with
demonstrations by various academic teams and clubs. A share of the
proceeds from “A Night on Oaktown” is a major source of funding for
Academic Boosters.
